Approximately 40 Australian fashion and accessories brands will show in New York and Paris in the coming weeks.
Fifteen Australian labels, including Frankie Swimwear, Sui Generis and Cristahlea, will take part in the Fashion Palette New York Fashion Week group runway showcases at Pier 59, Chelsea Piers on Sept. 8.
Misha Collection and Zimmermann, meanwhile, will show their individual runway collections in New York on Sept. 9, while Dion Lee and Tome, both now New York-based, will show on Sept. 10 and 11 respectively.
In Paris, the Australian Fashion Chamber will stage its third Australian Designers Abroad showcase from Sept. 29 to Oct. 4 at Nov. 9, Place des Vosges. The Australian designer advocacy body’s 3,767-square-foot pop-up showroom will feature the spring 2017 collections of Romance Was Born, Christopher Esber, Megan Park, Tome, International Woolmark Prize 2016/2017 regional finalist Macgraw, the six month-old ath-leisure brand P.E. Nation and accessories brands Sarah & Sebastian and Pared Eyewear.
“Designers Abroad takes our best design talent and helps them build their export business and build global footprints,” said Australian Fashion Chamber general manager Courtney Miller. “For Australian designers, it’s a massive undertaking and expense to take their collections to Paris season after season — we make that opportunity possible.”
Independent of the AFC initiative, which is supported by the Australian federal government, at least a dozen other Australian fashion and accessories brands will be showing across the city during the spring 2017 show season. They include Dion Lee, Maticevski, Akira Isogawa, Alex Perry, Ryan Storer, Strateas.Carlucci and Ellery.
Kym Ellery will also present her spring collection on Oct. 4 at the Palais de Tokyo, the third season she has been part of the Chambre Syndicale’s Paris runway schedule.
