NEW YORK — Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet has forged a three-year partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America that will support the organization’s efforts to promote young fashion talent.
Each year, Alice + Olivia will work with a new artist to create a one-of-a-kind piece to be auctioned off, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the CFDA. Versions of the item will then be featured in a capsule collection available at all Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet stores and other retail partners, with 50 percent of the proceeds earmarked for the CFDA.
For the first capsule, Bendet has partnered with Domingo Zapata, a Spanish-American artist born in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. The pieces will be available for purchase at the end of this month at all Alice + Olivia by Stacy Bendet stores and other retail partners.
Stacey Bendet, chief executive officer and creative director of Alice + Olivia, said the partnership “is very reflective of my brand and our continued collaboration with artists. It is also wonderful to be able to raise funds for the CFDA, in their ongoing support of our industry and its new talent.”
“Stacey has been a valued member of the CFDA for a long time, and we could not be more appreciative for her work to help us in our cause to advance up-and-coming fashion designers. The extraordinary support we will be receiving from the brand thanks to this initiative is invaluable to our organization,” added Steven Kolb, ceo of the CFDA.
Zapata maintains studios in New York, Miami and Hollywood, where he produces neo-Expressionist paintings, as well as sculpture, painting in both oil and acrylic. He frequently incorporates mixed-media, collage and graffiti into his work. This year, Zapata is preparing a commemorative mural for the lobby of Freedom Tower in Manhattan.
A one-of-a-kind ballgown and gown skirt, hand-painted and signed by Zapata, will be auctioned off April 28 by Paddle8, as well as an Alice + Olivia custom two-piece bell-shaped ballgown skirt with leather waistband and a strapless bustier in leather, with piping in the print painted by Zapata. All proceeds will go to the CFDA.
The Alice + Olivia capsule collection consists of a gown ($898 retail), floor-length skirt ($598) and a minidress ($298), each in a print rendered from a mural painted by Zapata. A few hundred of each style will be produced for retail distribution.
Alice + Olivia will launch the collaboration with Zapata at an invitation-only cocktail party on April 28 at Casa Domingo in Gramercy Park in New York.
