Friday after New York Fashion Week can have a New Year’s Day sort of feel for designers — rest, recover, regroup.
Now, the Council of Fashion Designers of America is giving them reason to rejuvenate. For the first time, there will be five nominees instead of three for the Womenswear, Menswear and Accessories Designer of the Year categories for this year’s CFDA Awards. Steven Kolb, chief executive officer of the CFDA said, “We increased the number of nominees in the three categories to recognize the immense talent in American fashion.”
Nominations ballots will be sent Friday to the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards Guild, which consists of 1,500 members of the fashion industry including CFDA designer members, top editors, buyers, photographers and stylists. In addition, the CFDA has set new guidelines for the Swarovski Awards for Emerging Talent, defining an emerging designer as someone who has worked in that specific category for 10 or less seasons, or five years or less.
The winners will be celebrated June 1 at the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards, in collaboration with Swarovski, at Alice Tully Hall in New York.
