Illy has over the years collaborated with a range of international designers including Marina Abramović, Robert Rauschenberg, Jeff Koons, Julian Schnabel, Anish Kapoor and Daniel Buren.
The capsule with Emilio Pucci features espresso and cappuccino cups, as well as a mug, all decorated with the designs of “Cities of the World,” — the fashion brand’s collection of silk scarves launched in 2014. They’re printed with hand-drawn views of international cities, including Florence, Rome, Milan, New York, London and Paris.
“This is the first time we’ve ever worked with a fashion brand,” says Carlo Bach, art and creative director of Illy and mastermind of the company’s art-based initiative. “But Emilio Pucci was himself an artist, and it made perfect sense to bring his enduring vision and unmistakable style to life.”
“My father was always sketching, drawing and creating,” said Laudomia Pucci, daughter of the founder and image director of the fashion label. “In a way, he was always as much an artist as a fashion designer, so it is wonderful to see his work sit together with Illy’s esteemed roster of contemporary artists.”
The capsule collection, numbered and signed, comes with customized boxes showing different drawings reunited to form an imaginative skyline. The Emilio Pucci-Illy Art Collection is available from this month in Illy’s shops, selected design stores, temporary locations and online at emiliopucci.com.
