SHANGHAI – Fashion Rocks, the music and fashion mash-up entertainment event, is making its China debut as part of Shanghai Fashion Week.
The Shanghai edition of Fashion Rocks will feature Usher, Charlie XCX and Coco Lee on the music side of the equation, with La Perla ready-to-wear and the urban aesthetic of Chinese designer Sankuanz on the fashion side.
It’s the first move by Shanghai Fashion Week to present a consumer-facing event, rather than a purely industry-focused show, presentation or showroom.
“If you look at Shanghai Fashion Week, or any other fashion week globally, it is an industry event. Fashion shows are catering to the .00001 percent of their clients, albeit some of them are their VIPs. But what about the other 99.99999 percent of their customers?” asked Gary Mak, general manager of event organizer Apax Live.
“This is the essence of Fashion Rocks – we bring together fashion and music in a very harmonious way that could reach the masses because even if you are not a fashionista, you can still enjoy the music at the show.”
Coming at the end of a world tour of major fashion weeks, Shanghai’s edition runs from Wednesday to Oct. 20 and will include 79 shows and presentations on the official schedule from a host of up-and-coming independent Chinese brands, including Angel Chen, Museum of Friendship, Xu Zhi and more.
Also on the agenda are numerous business-focused trade shows and showrooms that have been scheduled to coincide with Shanghai Fashion Week, including Mode Shanghai, On Time Show and The Hub.
