Hermès thinks there’s enough business in Las Vegas to expand one of its three stores in the city.

The luxury retailer is relocating and nearly tripling the size of its store at The Shops at Crystals at CityCenter.

Hermès’ Crystals store will grow to 13,500 square feet from 4,600 square feet when it moves from the middle of the mall to the entrance of the Aria Resort and Casino on Las Vegas Boulevard, which has direct access to Crystals. The Hermès unit, which will have signage on the building’s facade, is scheduled to open in December 2017.

“It’s a much better location,” said Robert Chavez, president and chief executive officer of Hermès USA.

The store is consistent with Hermès’ overall U.S. strategy, which included store expansions in 2015 in Washington, D.C.; Seattle; Boston; Houston, Dallas and Miami.

This year, Hermès will enlarge units at the King of Prussia Mall in King of Prussia, Pa., and the Ala Moana Center in Honolulu.

“We have expansions on the horizon in 2017 in San Francisco and Waikiki,” Chavez said.

The expanded Hermès boutiques in prime locations “allow for a comprehensive presentation of the Hermès lifestyle universes,” Chavez said, adding that the two-level relocated Crystals store will feature an extensive array of products for men, women and the home.

“We never dreamed we’d have three stores [in Las Vegas],” Chavez said, noting that the original unit opened at the Bellagio. “After that, we opened at the Encore. When we opened at Crystals, we closed the Bellagio store. When a great location became available at the Bellagio, we reopened there at the end of 2011.”

The three stores don’t cannibalize one another, he said.

“If you’re going to the Bellagio, you’re going to stay pretty close to that property,” Chavez said. “Each location has a unique kind of client base. There are the international really high rollers and domestic tourists. It’s such an entertainment center. People go for great shows and great food. There’s a bit of a local shopping base with developers and casino owners. Each of our store directors buy for their own stores and tailor their buys to their clients’ tastes.”

Hermès is set to open a store in 2017 at American Dream in East Rutherford, N.J. Chavez said he doesn’t consider it a new store, but rather a move from the Shops at Riverside in Hackensack, N.J.
