Karin Gregersen McLennan has been named president of Zimmermann, the Australian fashion and swim brand.
Based in New York, she will execute global strategy, oversee all distribution channels outside Australia and build an infrastructure to support the global development of the brand. It is a new role with the company, which will open an office at 601 W. 26th Street.
She reports to Chris Olliver, chief executive officer, and will work closely and collaborate with cofounders Nicky Zimmermann, creative director, and Simone Zimmermann, chief operating officer.
“Karin has a proven track record in growing brands with a holistic and strategic approach,” said Simone Zimmermann. “We are all very aligned with our creative vision for Zimmermann, and we are excited to see her succeed in this important new global role.”
Most recently, McLennan was president and ceo of Vince from May 2013 to July 2015. Before that, she was managing director of Chloé/Richemont North America, where she was responsible for the strategic development of Chloé and See by Chloé in the U.S., Canada and South America.
Last March, Zimmermann received a minority investment from equity firm General Atlantic to accelerate the company’s expansion. The brand is known for its boho-romantic printed dresses, lace peasant tops and skirts and feminine one-pieces and sculptural bikinis. The company was founded in Sydney in 1991.
