Maureen Chiquet, global chief executive officer of Chanel, is leaving the company at the end of this month due to differences of opinion over strategic direction.
Executives confirmed to WWD that Chanel chairman Alain Wertheimer will take over the operational management of the company.
During her nine years as ceo, Chiquet “oversaw the successful international expansion of the House of Chanel, enhanced its luxury positioning and image and grew the business in each of its categories,” the company said. “She also established a global organization and enhanced the culture and leadership of the company.”
Chiquet was also “instrumental in fostering innovation, driving corporate social responsibility and establishing the Chanel foundation,” the company noted.
