Paris in spring suits Michael Kors Inc. just fine.

The brand plans to open its largest store in the City of Light for spring 2011.

The 7,000-square-foot boutique will bow at 279 Rue Saint-Honoré and will showcase an array of Michael Kors collection, Kors Michael Kors and Michael Michael Kors women’s products. In step with the company’s lifestyle retail concept, there will be an emphasis on accessories, with handbags, small leather goods, footwear, eyewear and watches being housed on the first floor. Fragrance will be featured prominently on that level, and the women’s collection ready-to-wear salon will be located on the second floor.

Kors, a former creative director at Celine, said, “I spent many years as an American in Paris during my Celine years, so this feels like a homecoming of sorts. Rue Saint-Honoré is the perfect street for my clients…glamorous, chic, romantic and fast paced all at the same time.”

Designed by the company’s in-house retail design team, the Paris store will share the same chic aesthetic found in the other locations. There will be customized furniture, exclusive fixtures and vintage pieces. The Saint-Honoré building has its own unusual architectural details — such as a glass ceiling and an impressive staircase.

Paris has been on the company’s radar “for quite some time,” said John D. Idol, chief executive officer of Michael Kors. The new freestanding location will be the designer’s first in France and his fourth in Europe. There are also stores in London and Milan, as well as the brand’s first European lifestyle store in Munich.

“Our retail locations have a proven track record of success globally, and we look forward to further growth throughout Europe,” Idol said.
