One of fashion’s most buzzed-about collaborations is about to become available for sale.
On July 23, NikeLab x Kim Jones: Packable Sport Style will hit the NikeLab site and select stores.
The partnership between the British fashion designer, who is head of men’s wear at Louis Vuitton, and the sports brand is based on the creation of a packable collection inspired by the frequent travels of elite athletes. It blends Nike’s designs with Jones’ concept on packing and the comfort needed for travel.
The collection includes men’s, women’s and unisex looks and will continue for two seasons. Among the products offered are windrunner jackets, lightweight pants, shorts, tech-knit T-shirts and tanks, a travel bag and an Air Zoom LWP x Kim Jones shoe, which will sell for $250. The outerwear will retail for $275 to $350, tops for $175 to $250, pants for $175 to $225 and the bag for $300.
Jones, who admits to being a Nike fan since he was a teenager, said: “I’ve always wanted to work with Nike and when they approached me, it was the perfect time. I wanted to use Nike technology so we found something old and made it into something that was very new. I didn’t want the collection to look retro. I wanted it to be modern and to speak to youth today.”
The shoe is a mash-up of the original Nike Zoom 95 upper and the Air Max 1 last.
“I like the fact that it has come from an old shoe, but has become a completely new shoe,” Jones added. “It took quite a few tries to get it right. At first it was too chunky and then it was too skinny. I was thinking about a shoe that I would really like to wear and be proud of. To have a Nike sneaker is an amazing thing. It’s a real honor.”
The Jones collaboration is part of NikeLab’s Summer of Sport series, which has also included Riccardo Tisci, Olivier Rousteing, Roger Federer and Undercover Gyakusou/Jun Takahashi.
