DALLAS — It seems that whenever a high-profile event is scheduled here, Mother Nature greets the visitors with a winter storm that shuts down power and blankets roads in treacherous ice. It happened during the NCAA Basketball Tournament in 2010 and Super Bowl XLV in 2011, and now Friday morning’s ice storm has thrown a snow shovel into preparations for Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show set for Tuesday evening at Fair Park.

Members of the Chanel team staying at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek lost power for most of Friday, while some were evacuated from the Joule Hotel after an electrical fire out front on Main Street. Others at the Rosewood Crescent Hotel temporarily lost Internet service. Numerous flight cancellations can’t be helping, either.

The Joule’s restaurant, CBD Provisions, is closed for cleanup of exterior smoke damage but is expected to reopen Monday in time for Chanel’s welcome dinner for visiting media.

A total of 270,000 people lost power Friday, and by Saturday that number stood at 105,000. There’s a chance of more snow and sleet Saturday night, and then the forecast calls for cloudy and cold through Tuesday.
