There was a lot of positive buzz at Pitti Uomo around the collection of Umit Benan, the recent winner of the Who’s On Next men’s wear award. His concept of retired classic rockers, dressing for comfort yet still charismatic, showed a unique point of view and was well-executed. His painfully awkward presentation, however, suffered from the mistake of letting shenanigans overshadow the talent. A dinner party of old rockers turned into a clichéd display of drinking, smoking and carousing with very young women. It is hoped that Benan will someday earn the right to be so provocative, and do so with a dose of irony.
