While much was said about the stars who arrived without their famous mates, the bigger news was how many showed up with their moms or dads or their kids — in one form or another. Tom Cruise brought his mother; Nicole Kidman dragged along her dad, and Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Costner, Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas and Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins, among others, brought along their children. And proving you’re never too young to break into Hollywood, there were the very, very pregnant Cate Blanchett and Debra Messing, whose designing pals Donna Karan and Isaac Mizrahi, respectively, created custom looks for their late-term pregnant figures. “There’s something glorious about being pregnant,” mused Blanchett. “It means you can sail through what would normally be kind of nerve-wracking situations with great aplomb because the undercurrent of what’s going on in one’s life is so much more huge.”
