Days after the German national football team fell to France in the Euro Cup semifinals, team captain Bastian Schweinsteiger had cause to celebrate. The German player wed his longtime girlfriend on Tuesday morning, Serbian professional tennis player Ana Ivanović, during a ceremony with friends and family at Venice City Hall in Italy. Ivanović has also experienced her share of recent athletic disappointment in the days leading up to the wedding — she got knocked out of Wimbledon during the first round of the tournament on June 27, facing off against Ekaterina Alexandrova.
But no matter: Ivanović had reason to wear white again soon enough. For her wedding, she wore a long white column gown with flowing ruffles designed by contemporary brand Parker. And with a price tag of $298, the dress was quite the steal — particularly when considering the pro couple’s combined net worth.
Several of their friends and colleagues shared well-wishes on social media. “Congratulations, @BSchweinsteiger,” wrote the groom’s Euro Cup teammate Thomas Müller on Twitter, while fellow footballer Robert Lewandowski added “Congratulations! Wishing you a marriage filled with love and happiness @AnaIvanovic & @BSchweinsteiger.” The Women’s Tennis Association also shared their love and emojis, writing “Congrats to newlyweds @AnaIvanovic and @BSchweinsteiger.”
