LOS ANGELES — Designers, release the gowns! After months of saving their best looks for Oscar night, it’s time to gear up for the ultimate red carpet moment.

Before dawn Tuesday, the nominations were announced for the 73rd Academy Awards. The Super Bowl of film and fashion, the Oscars mark the culmination of a frenzied awards season. It’s also the first time designs from the Paris Couture and New York’s fall 2001 will have their Hollywood close-up.

This year’s nominated women — from Juliette Binoche to Julia Roberts to Kate Hudson — already claim designers as fans. And ultra-glam presenters Catherine Zeta-Jones, Hilary Swank, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez have their share of couture courtship.

The big show airs on ABC, March 25. In the meantime, WWDWest will report on all things Oscar in its Pre-Oscars issue, Feb. 26.
