“We were really inspired by the romance of vintage, early Sixties Parisian couture,” said Lisa Axelson, Ann Taylor’s senior vice president of design, during the company’s fall presentation on Thursday. She translated the volume and structure of rounded silhouettes and nipped waists into a ladylike take on working-woman sportswear. There were peplumed shirts, capes and skinny pants, some of which came in lace. Colors included bright pink, royal blue and mint green. Axelson also pointed out the brand’s foray into mixed prints, many of which were graphic black and white.
