Lisa Axelson, Ann Taylor’s senior vice president of design, envisioned “a winter wonderland — an amazing Nordic landscape of barren birch trees and frost on the ground” for the holiday collection she presented on Wednesday at the Mondrian Hotel in SoHo. That translated into a lineup of soft grays and ivory with an emphasis on faux fur and cozy knits. It wasn’t all a neutral story, as cobalt and pops of red were used to modernize day-to-night dressing. Meanwhile, Axelson expanded the brand’s wedding collection with a group of modern eveningwear looks made up of new takes on tuxedo dressing and citified gowns, such as a long pleated style with a leather top, all done in black and white and priced under $500.
