PELLAT-FINET PLANS TO MOVE NY LOCATION
PARIS — Cashmere knit designer Lucien Pellat-Finet plans to close his New York shop at the end of the year and seek a larger location in the city.
The store, at 226 Elizabeth Street, opened in November 1997, making Pellat-Finet one of the first designers to test the then-unchartered waters of NoLIta. Pellat-Finet said Wednesday he hopes to establish a store with an interior resembling his new Paris location on Rue Montalembert.
“The Paris store has a real concept,” he said. “When we came to New York two years ago, we decided to have a go at it. We set up the shop in a month, but there was no real thought for a concept. Now, I want to exploit the rarity of the product and have it better highlighted.”
Pellat-Finet said he is not worried about lost sales.
“I do plenty of business with Barneys, Jeffrey and Janet Brown in Long Island, all of which are very good sales points,” he said.
