ADIDAS AMERICA CUTS 50 JOBS
NEW YORK — Adidas America has laid off 50 employees — 3 percent of the work force — at its corporate offices in Beaverton, Ore.
Steve Wynne, president and chief executive officer, announced the layoffs this week to senior management, according to an Adidas spokesman.
Middle-tier employees across all categories were cut, with licensing and apparel the most heavily affected areas, the spokesman said. In recent months, consumer interest in the Adidas label has “cooled off,” and the brand has been hit with discounting by major sporting goods stores, he said.
The cuts were made as part of the company’s yearend business review. In addition to this week’s layoffs, Adidas management has decided to hold off on filling some new posts, but the spokesman declined to say how many.
