FOR HOLIDAY, INSHOP OFFERS PROMOS, STORE REVIEWS
NEW YORK — While most of the holiday hoopla over the Internet has focused on e-commerce, a site that opened Wednesday, Inshop.com, has gone a different route: featuring sales promotions in 51 U.S. cities, plus store reviews and other information to ease the shopping experience.
For a sale to be listed on Inshop.com, said Veronique Bardach, founder and chief executive officer, the merchandise must be offered in “significant” quantities, at discounts of at least 10 percent. Items listed at sale prices in the New York metropolitan area, Wednesday, could be found under such labels as Calvin Klein, Diesel and Esprit, for example.
Apparel accounts for about 70 percent of the goods listed on Inshop.com, most of it women’s, Bardach said.
During the site’s pre-launch period, Inshop.com found that 84 percent of its visitors were women, leading to the emphasis on listing those fashions, she explained.
Visitors to Inshop.com may search for sales by a specific item, or a favorite brand, store or catalog.
America Online’s Digital City network is providing fashion content for the site. On Wednesday, editorial features included a store review of Anthropologie here and a guide called “How to Buy Wine for the Holidays.”
Coming soon, Bardach said, will be consumer reviews of stores and products.
