It looks as if Giorgio Armani has scored the biggest star of the week: Ricky Martin. The Latin heartthrob, along with Tina Turner and Glenn Close, is expected to attend the show and dinner party tomorrow night at the designer’s new space in Milan’s Navigli neighborhood. Armani and Martin have a longstanding relationship: The designer dressed the singer — and friend — long before Martin became famous, and he has attended Armani’s shows in the past.
Armani tried to keep the news under wraps for as long as possible — the singer is more popular in Europe than in the U.S., if you can believe it — and he knew the screaming masses of teens would flock to Martin like bees to honey. Armani’s party is to celebrate the purchase of the new space, which will be renovated this fall, and to launch his latest fragrance for women, Mania. The designer is spending big bucks on the event: He’s flying in the chef of London’s Nobu — with more than 20 assistants in tow — to create a sushi feast. Armani is also flying in some of the world’s hippest underground deejays from New York’s Body and Soul. Meanwhile, the pop star arrives in Milan today with plans to stay at the Principe.
