NEW YORK — As part of its plans to beef up European operations, Polo Ralph Lauren has named Doug Williams group presi-
dent of Polo Ralph Lauren International Business, a new post.
Previously, Williams was president of global licensing and new business development.
In his new role, he will be responsible for all Polo business outside the U.S. He is based in London and reports to Lance Isham, Polo’s corporate president, based here.
As reported, Polo plans to acquire its European operations, Poloco SA, in Paris, and certain affiliates and retail stores. The purchase is valued at $230 million, including approximately $30 million of debt, and should be completed in January.
Williams joined Polo in 1988 and held several key positions at Polo’s men’s wear before being named president of product licensing in 1997. He was promoted again earlier this year.
Williams’s successor is expected to be named shortly, a Polo spokeswoman said.
