WOLFORD STRETCHES OUT: Wolford’s spring line includes a new six-piece group of loose-fitting viscose separates. Wholesale prices range from $44 for a top to $71 for a dress.
Designed to complement Wolford’s group of merino wool items, the viscose group will be distributed worldwide in all of Wolford’s sales points, a Wolford France spokeswoman said.
Wolford opened its second flagship in Paris this month, a wholly owned unit measuring 450 square feet on Rue de Passy. There are about 40 Wolford stores worldwide.
In other news, Wolford reported that operating losses widened to $3.2 million for the first three months of its fiscal year ended July 31, 1999, compared with $3 million for the same period last year. Losses were attributed to increased debt related to investments, the company said. Sales for the quarter rose nearly 9.5 percent to $25 million, compared with $22.8 million a year ago.
LEVANTE ENTERS U.S.: Infinity Classic International, a Brooklyn-based company that specializes in private label hosiery, has entered into a long-term partnership with Levante Calze, an Italian legwear maker, to market the Levante label in the U.S.
Last month, Infinity Classic shipped Levante’s late fall collection to specialty stores and department stores. Bodytones, a group of sheers that offers items that target specific areas such as the thighs, stomach or the derriere, is a popular component of the collection, a Levante spokeswoman said.
First-year projected wholesale volume is $3 million, according to a company spokeswoman. Levante legwear is being shown at the Infinity Classic showroom at 1328 Broadway here.
With wholesale prices ranging from $2.25 for ultrasheers to $12.60 for Lurex tights, Levante aims to be an affordable alternative to some of the other European legwear labels. Waistbands with flat seams, diamond gussets and innovative support panels are some of the special features in the collection.
Levante, a 40-year-old family-owned company, is currently sold in more than 16 countries. Cindy Crawford is the spokeswoman for the brand in Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Israel, Lebanon and Greece.
