SARA LEE HIKES EARNINGS OUTLOOK
CHICAGO — Sara Lee Corp. said Wednesday that robust sales of its branded apparel group should lead to better-than-expected first-quarter earnings.
Earnings for the quarter ended Sept. 30 are projected to rise 12 percent to 28 cents a share from 25 cents, 2 cents above Wall Street’s consensus estimate. Sara Lee will release full results on Oct. 27.
“Unit volumes for Sara Lee’s branded apparel business are continuing the strong trends noted in last year’s fourth quarter, with underwear and intimate apparel contributing significantly to these results,” John H. Bryan, chairman, said in a statement.
