BITTLER LEAVES NIKE FOR WNBA
NEW YORK — Sandi Bittler has resigned as director of women’s sports marketing at Nike and has joined the Women’s National Basketball Association as vice president of business operations for the league’s new franchise in Portland, Ore.
Bittler is the third female senior marketing executive to leave Nike within the past two years. Liz Dolan, corporate vice president and director of marketing, stepped down in the fall of 1997, and her successor, Sue Levin, left as women’s brand director in February.
Bittler said she is focusing on securing sponsors and helping to sell the mandatory 5,500 season tickets required for a new team. Prior to joining Nike in 1996, she worked in the marketing and business affairs division of the NBA, concentrating on special promotions. Her successor at Nike has not yet been named.
