NEW YORK — Vicki Ross, a retail consultant who launched South of Seventh two seasons ago as an alternative venue for fashion shows here, said Friday she had struck a deal to relaunch the event in February as Beyond 7th.
South of Seventh was launched last October under the auspices of the SoHo Partnership, a nonprofit agency that helps the homeless, for young designers who wanted to have fashion shows, but couldn’t afford 7th on Sixth. It ran for two seasons, but its sponsorship backed out last spring.
Beyond 7th is being organized under a corporate entity called Downtown Designer Group, or DDG. Its parent company, Park Avenue South Partners, is an event marketing and sponsorship agent that works with sports and promotional events.
Walt Behnke, vice president of creative at Park Avenue South Partners and DDG, said the company is lining up sponsorship for the Beyond 7th shows and is in negotiations with Wella Corp. and the New York Observer, a weekly newspaper.
About 30 shows are planned from Feb. 3-5 at the Metropolitan Pavilion, 110 West 19th Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, Ross said.
