HERRERA BUYS GIVENCHY SITE, PLANS 1ST STORE
NEW YORK — Carolina Herrera is joining the crowd on Madison Avenue.
The designer’s company has purchased the landmark Givenchy building, which includes the boutique, at 954 Madison Avenue at 74th Street.
It will house Herrera’s first freestanding store.
“I have always loved that building,” an elated Herrera said on Sunday, “and Givenchy has been there forever. I love buildings like that, where the same owner has had it, not one where stores open and close every year. Now the opportunity has come up to buy it, and I am in heaven.”
The company bought the four-floor building from Hubert de Givenchy.
Herrera said she didn’t have details on square footage of the store or the building, or the price paid.
Her plans are to house her full range of products, from the apparel to perfume to licensed goods and a bridal salon.
Herrera currently has in-store shops at stores like Saks Fifth Avenue.
She said her store would open next year.
“It’s a landmark building, so we have to be careful with the facade,” she said.
Givenchy executives could not be reached for comment on Sunday.
