PEOPLESOFT TO AQUIRE INTREPID
NEW YORK — In a move to provide retailers with integrated enterprise-wide systems, PeopleSoft Inc., a top vendor of manufacturing, supply chain, financial and human-resources software, will acquire Intrepid Software, a leading provider of merchandise management and decision-support applications.
The transaction is expected to close by the end of the third quarter of this year.
With this acquisition, PeopleSoft, which is based in Pleasanton, Calif., will offer a solution that ties many functions across the enterprise and through the retail supply chain, similar to a system that SAP AG, Walldorf, Germany, is now rolling out with major retailers such as Reebok.
“By acquiring a company with proven products and an enviable list of retail customers, PeopleSoft is not only demonstrating our commitment to the retail market, but we are also adding a critical link in the supply chain, extending PeopleSoft solutions from the manufacturing floor to the sales floor,” said Curt Brasfield, general manager of PeopleSoft’s retail industry business unit.
Rich White, president and chief executive of Intrepid, will assume the role of vice president of retail business development at PeopleSoft and will report to Brasfield.
PeopleSoft and Intrepid have had a joint sales and development relationship since January 1997 and they have about 10 retailers in common, including Wal-Mart, Edison Bros., Consolidated Stores Corp. and Woolworth, which will soon change its corporate name to Venator.
Intrepid has already completed development work to integrate its retail management and decision-support applications with PeopleSoft’s financial management applications, officials announced.
