FASHION STOCKS SLIP DOW
NEW YORK — Continuing concerns over Asia’s economic woes sent the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping 159.93 points Thursday to 8811.77, and some fashion issues took hits.
Shares of Estee Lauder gave back 9/16 to 63 5/8, Nu Skin Asia Pacific dropped 1 5/16 to 23 3/16 and Revlon shed 1 7/16 to 50 5/16.
Retailers, one of strongest stock groups in the first half, saw some profit taking. Notable declines were seen by Dayton Hudson Corp., off 1 5/8 to 50 1/2; Nordstrom, 1 1/16 to 71 3/8; The Talbots, 1 3/16 to 27 1/4; Woolworth, 3/4 to 19 13/16; The Gap, 3/4 to 61 3/4, and Abercrombie & Fitch, 1 1/2 to 42 1/4.
Selloffs also were seen among manufacturers, including Jones Apparel Group, off 1 7/8 to 62 7/16; Liz Claiborne, down 1 3/16 to 52 7/8; St. John Knits, 1 to 38, Tommy Hilfiger, 11/16 to 59 7/8; and VF Corp., 1 1/4 to 51 1/8.
