WET SEAL SAID IN TALKS WITH BRITCHES
NEW YORK — The Wet Seal, the fast-growing Foothill Ranch, Calif.-based juniors’ chain, reportedly is in negotiations to acquire the leases for the 90-plus Britches sportswear stores from Britches of Georgetowne.
Wet Seal, which has been on an aggressive expansion tear, is close to paying $15 million for the leases, sources said.
The company is expected to either convert the Britches stores to its Wet Seal or Contempo Casuals units or use the sites for a new format, Arden B, which will target a slightly older female shopper. Wet Seal currently operates more than 400 units around the country.
Executives of Wet Seal and Britches did not return phone calls.
