RON HERMAN AND E! GET CALIF. MART AWARD
LOS ANGELES — The California Mart’s annual Fashion Performance Award will go to two recipients this year: Ron Herman, owner of Ron Herman Fred Segal on Melrose Avenue, and E! Entertainment Television.
The Fashion Performance Award recognizes a company or individual (apparel or nonapparel) for outstanding performance and influence on the world of fashion.
Also announced were the nominees for the other 1998 Designer Awards.
The five Designer of the Year nominees are: Mica by Judy Rabineau & Wendy Katlen; Rozae Nichols; Trina Turk; William B., and XOXO. The award recognizes a California-based resource that has contributed to the women’s apparel industry in the state by demonstrating a consistent standard of excellence in the areas of design, innovation, retail performance and quality workmanship.
The nominees for the Rising Star award are: Bette Paige; Monah Li; St. Vincent; State of the Heart, and 26 Red Sugar. It recognizes a California designer who has gained recent recognition within the industry by demonstrating design innovation and growth potential.
A group of press members, buying offices and fashion industry executives select the nominees and recipients.
The winners will be announced at a final awards gala benefiting the Starlight Children’s Foundation on Oct. 4 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Last year’s winners were: Max Azria, owner and designer of BCBG Max Azria, who won the Fashion Performance Award; Janice Levin-Krok and Tom Nguyen of Poleci, who won the Designer of the Year award, and Eduardo Lucero, who won the Rising Star award.
