NEW YORK — There was a big round of applause last week when Clinique executives and department and specialty store retailers presented Evelyn Lauder with a check for $325,000 made out to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Clinique and the merchants raised the money last year by holding the annual breast cancer awareness promotion: Starting in October, Sweet Honey lipstick was sold in a silver pouch trimmed with a pink ribbon for $7.50. For every lipstick sold, Clinique and the retailers each donated $1.50 to the Foundation.
“We can give ourselves a pat on the back,” said Evelyn Lauder. “Beauty consultants feel energized by their participation in something that’s not just working toward a sales goal but also helping people.”
