A California journalist who claimed that Courtney Love assaulted her at a Michelle Mason fashion show in Los Angeles last April filed suit last week against the singer-turned-actress. Belissa Cohen, who was trying to snap a photo for L.A. Weekly, says Love grabbed her hair, kneed her in the groin, and hit her in the face. The suit alleges assault, battery, negligence, and intentional infliction of emotional distress and asks for an unspecified amount of damages.
“It’s really sort of nonsense,” says a spokeswoman for Love. “It’s another case of the paparazzi targeting a celebrity.”
“This occurred in the presence of witnesses,” says Cohen’s lawyer, Gloria Allred, who sees Love’s alleged acts as part of a changing attitude toward working photographers.
