DIOR GOES WEST
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — It was a casual sort of fashion event at Mr. Chow’s restaurant here earlier this month when Christian Dior showed its fall collection with models stopping to chat and point out features of the clothes and a handful of actresses ad-libbing about the designs.
Eva Chow hosted the June 18 event, and in addition to the actresses, those in attendance included Barbara Davis, Betsy Bloomingdale, Evi Quaid and Irena Medavoy.
Mariska Hargitay, seen recently on “E.R.” and the daughter of the late Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay, entertained her table with a running commentary on the fashion show. When a model slunk through the crowd in a gray tweed jacket and skirt, Hargitay said, “If you buy that one, you have to walk that way.”
Jennifer Tilly and Lori Petty got in on the act and sighed audibly over a pair of mules with fox fur trim that accompanied one outfit. Then Tilly pointed out one low-cut jacket to Petty and said, “Lori, get that and you can paint on the cleavage.”
Some items that were picked up at the show included fox-trimmed jackets and suits with Calais lace-encrusted hems, according to a Dior spokeswoman.
