NEW OWNER NIXES HALSTON RESORT LINE
NEW YORK — The new owner of the Halston label has announced to accounts that it will not do a resort line.
The designer collection will resume delivery for spring 1999, according to a Halston spokeswoman.
The resort line would have been delivered to stores in November.
Catterton Investments, a Greenwich, Conn.-based investment firm, took control of the label from Tropic Tex International in April.
The new owner, which had been investing money in the label since late last year, is in the midst of addressing its delivery and production problems.
“We did not have the time to produce the quality consistent with the Halston brand,” said the spokeswoman.
She noted that the fall deliveries, due to arrive in stores in July, will be shipped on time. Those shipments will be in 80 doors.
The Halston label was resurrected by Tropic Tex for fall 1997 selling.
The spokeswoman noted that stores were informed of the new development by either letter or phone last Wednesday.
