DALLAS — The International Apparel Mart here has named 33 finalists in its 23rd annual Dallas Fashion Awards competition.
Two new categories, swimwear and intimate apparel, were added to this year’s program, which recognizes vendors that have excelled in style and sales performance. Three finalists from 11 categories were chosen by a nominating committee of specialty and department store buyers, fashion associations and journalists.
The nominees are Anne Cole, Baja Blue and Sunsets for swimwear; Wolford, Natori and Carole Hochman for intimate apparel; Esprit, Level 7 and Yaga Girlz for junior contemporary, and Dana Buchman, Tamotsu and Virani for designer women’s wear. Other finalists are Carmen Marc Valvo, Kay Unger New York and Tadashi for after five; BCBG Max Azria, Body Action Design by Jeffrey Halper and Laundry by Shelli Segal for contemporary; Maggy London, Sharon Young and Carol Anderson for dresses, and Sigrid Olsen, Russ Berens Malibu and My Weekend Clothes for sportswear.
Children’s wear nominees are Cottontail Originals, Hartstrings/Kitestrings and Zoodles. Accessories finalists are Brighton, Fossil and The Sak. Jewelry nominees include Erica Lyons, Judith Jack and Liz Palacious Designs.
During the next two months, the mart will mail 30,000 ballots to buyers, who cast their votes via mail or in person at the mart to determine the winners. They will be announced after the holiday and resort market week that runs Aug. 20-24 here.
At the same time, the mart plans to announce the winner of its Fashion Excellence Award. Past winners include Italy’s Ferragamo family, Badgley Mischka, Todd Oldham, Judith Leiber, Gianni Versace and Bob Mackie.
Some years, the mart names two more noncompetitive DFA winners: the Rising Star and Personal Style awards. These winners haven’t yet been announced.
