PARIS — There will be at least one available front row seat at the New York fashion shows this week. Suzy Menkes of the International Herald Tribune won’t be covering the collections because she broke her leg in London Thursday night.
Menkes’ husband, David Spanier, noted that she will still write her column for Tuesday and upcoming editions, but traveling is out of the question.
Menkes was on her way to the theater when she tripped on the sidewalk and broke her kneecap.
She’s now in a thigh-high cast.
Spanier, meanwhile, debunked rumors that were sparked in London a few weeks ago that Menkes was thinking about retirement, saying that he hadn’t heard anything of the sort.
The Tribune’s coverage of the New York collections will come “in all likelihood from picking up Robin Givhan’s copy from the Washington Post,” according to Katherine Knorr, a deputy editor for the Tribune.
