RUSSELL BENNET SLATES LAUNCH OF SPORTSWEAR LINE FOR FALL
NEW YORK — Russell Bennett is back in business.
The sportswear designer had closed his signature label and left his secondary line, More Dash Than Cash, after the spring 1996 collection.
His new collection, which will be under his name, is slated to launch for fall.
The venture is “completely backed from within,” said Bennett, who has been working as a design consultant for Moschino in Italy for about two years.
It will be at the designer price level, Bennett said, and will be shown in what he called a “static exhibition,” during the New York collections in April.
It includes cashmere hand-knits produced in Italy and woven pieces made here. Colors include gray, tan, white, black and red.
“It’s very much along the vein of what I used to do,” said Bennett, who was known for feminine sportswear with whimsical touches. “It’s a small collection, only about 30 pieces.”
Russell has opened offices and a studio at 307 Canal Street, and the new line will be represented by Showroom Seven here.
