ATKINS NAMES NANCY MARINO PRESIDENT, CEO

NEW YORK — Frederick Atkins Inc. has named Nancy Marino president and chief executive officer, succeeding Bernard Olsoff, who will continue as a senior adviser with the retail marketing, merchandising and consulting group here.
Marino has been senior vice president of international operations at the Associated Merchandising Corp. She has worked in international product development and merchandising with a wide range of department stores, specialty stores and mass merchants. Prior to AMC, Marino was general merchandise manager at Lerner New York. She is believed to be the first woman to head a major retail marketing group.
On Friday, Olsoff, who previously announced his plans to retire from Atkins, said, “We were seeking someone who brought to the table great product development skills and understood sourcing issues.”
Atkins’ retail members using private labels include Proffitt’s, Bon Ton, Gottschalk’s and Crowley’s.
Marino’s appointment also raises speculation that Atkins and AMC could renew merger talks. Last year, sources said, Atkins pulled the plug on a potential merger after the two parties disagreed over governance issues. A merger could be a good fit, considering AMC’s strong network of overseas sourcing offices and Atkins’ strength in domestic market coverage and private label.
