KEVIN FREEMAN JOINS WARD’S AS VP OF STORES
CHICAGO — Kevin Freeman, formerly with Caldor, has been named executive vice president of stores at Montgomery Ward, succeeding Robert Stevenish, who left for personal reasons, according to the company.
Freeman, formerly executive vice president of stores and loss prevention at Caldor, will be responsible for the sales and profits of Ward’s stores, as well as customer service and leased and licensed departments inside Ward’s stores. He reports to Burnett Donoho, vice chairman and chief operating officer, who joined the company in February.
Ward’s is trying to turn around its business after suffering a $249 million loss last year on retail sales of $5.9 billion. One strategy is to emphasize higher-margin apparel, such as denim, activewear and team sports apparel, and reduce lower-margin apparel, such as suit separates.
