RUBIN TO BE HONORED: Stephen Rubin, chairman and chief executive officer of The Pentland Group, has been named 1997 recipient of the International Entrepreneur Award, which is being given by the American Committee for Shenkar College in Israel.
As a leading British athletic apparel and footwear maker, The Pentland Group’s brands include Speedo swimwear, Berghaus outdoor apparel, Pony and KangaRoos athletic footwear, Ellesse activewear and footwear, Reusch ski and soccer gloves and Lacoste footwear.
Rubin, who was president of the World Federation of Sporting Goods Industry, will be honored Tuesday at a dinner-dance at the Rainbow Room in Manhattan.
STRUG LINE BOWS: Danskin has unveiled a fall line of girls’ gymnastics wear embroidered with the name of Kerri Strug.
First-year projected wholesale volume for the 13-piece line is $1 million, according to Marilyn Werner, executive vice president of Danskin. Available in girls’ sizes 4 to 16, the collection features leotards and T-shirts. Each leotard will carry Strug’s name.
In December, Strug, whose vault cinched the gold medal for the U.S. at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, signed an 18-month endorsement deal with Danskin. This year, Strug will visit 12 sporting goods stores and specialty stores on the company’s behalf, Werner said.
