MIGHTY DUCKS GET VOTE AT ESPN FASHION SHOW
NEW YORK — When it comes to professional sports teams, The Mighty Ducks are the best dressed.
That was the consensus at the first ESPY fashion show held Thursday at the Fashion Cafe here.
Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson and Seattle Mariners shortstop Alex Rodriguez were among the models who sported looks from 20 professional teams. The other show participants were professional female models.
Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, the National Football League and the National Basketball Association each submitted merchandise from their 10 best-selling licensed teams. From that group of 40, the five best uniforms in each league were then selected by on-line users via the ESPNet SportsZone site on the Internet. Each category attracted nearly 30,000 votes. A sports-oriented panel of judges selected the final winner.
The fashion show was a prologue to the ESPY Awards, ESPN’s annual awards show, scheduled for Monday at Radio City Music Hall. Part of the proceeds will benefit the V Foundation. Founded by the late Jim Valvano with the support of ESPN, the V Foundation is a nonprofit organization that focuses on cancer research.
