YARN TECH: Cad Expo, the showcase of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing technology that runs in conjunction with Yarn Fair International, will expand its roster of exhibitors to include manufacturers of product data management systems, Internet applications and workplace software. The Yarn Fair is scheduled to run Aug. 19-21 at the New York Hilton and Towers.

PHILADELPHIA STORY: Monarch Design Systems and Drexel University have formed an alliance to offer the Monarch School classes at Drexel’s Philadelphia campus. The Monarch School offers instruction in popular CAD software, including Adobe’s Photoshop and Illustrator programs, and Fractal Painter, for textile and fashion design. Monarch will also offer two new classes: Introduction to Woven Fabrics and Introduction to Knit Fabrics.
In other news, Monarch will now distribute Punto embroidery software made by SofTeam USA.

NEW ROUTE: Maersk Bangkok, a subsidiary of Maersk Inc., has signed an agreement with Societe Mixte de Transport of Lao PDR to offer container shipping transportation to and from Laos.

TRADE EVENT: ID Expo, a trade show spotlighting bar code and automatic data capture products, will be held May 13-15 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

EXPANSION PLANS: U.S. Label has acquired competitor Artistic Identification Systems, a closely held manufacturer of woven and printed labels for retail and women’s apparel headquartered in Pompton Lakes, N.J. No purchase price was disclosed.
The sale includes Artistic’s factories in Clinton, N.C.; Holdrege, Neb., and the corporate offices and plant in New Jersey.
