CK’S LATEST WORKOUT: American Essentials put a kick in its Calvin Klein socks business at Macy’s East’s flagship in New York last week.
During a promotion that ran eight days through Saturday, sales of Calvin Klein socks at the Herald Square store exceeded $12,000. That was a 30 percent gain compared with the previous week, said John Foligno, director of marketing for Calvin Klein Socks.
The legwear event was held in conjunction with last week’s launch of CK eyewear at the store.
Shoppers who purchased three pairs of Calvin Klein socks at regular price received a complimentary pair of CK by Calvin Klein athletic socks and a two-song Tori Amos compact disc. The athletic socks have a suggested retail price of $6.50.
The week also featured four dance performances on Friday by the Culture Shock group in the hosiery department, with more than 100 people turning out for each show. The performances were sponsored by CK by Calvin Klein, Crunch Fitness and Self magazine, and at each performance a raffle was held for a complimentary training session at a Crunch health club in Manhattan.
A percentage of last week’s sales will be donated to the Rape Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), a nonprofit organization that Calvin Klein supports. Foligno said he aimed to do additional Calvin Klein hosiery events to benefit RAINN.
