NEW YORK — For fall, A|X Armani Exchange is moving away from item dressing in favor of a more cohesive, tailored look. According to Suzanne Barton, director of product development, “This season, A|X has more of a point of view. For so long we’ve been struggling for an identity. Well, we’ve found it.” Translation: a well-rounded collection that encompasses everything from pinstriped suits to jeans.
Barton believes that the A|X customer wants the Armani look at a price, and now A|X is striving to provide just that. A suit, for example, may be adapted from an Emporio suit, with the same shoulders or collar, but with more mass appeal. The jeans are still there, but the denim is darker and the shapes — wrap dresses and fleece-lined jackets — are new. A corduroy group is casual yet sophisticated, especially the bias skirt and the long coat, and there’s also a great bias-cut little black dress. Meanwhile, belted or zip-front jackets look sharp when paired with slim or wide-cuffed trousers.
