NEW YORK — Anthony J. Buccina, senior vice president and general merchandise manager of women’s apparel, has been named executive vice president of merchandising at Carson Pirie Scott, the Milwaukee-based department store chain.
He succeeds John Freudenthal, who left the company in January.
Buccina joined Carson’s in 1993 as merchandise manager of women’s. Prior to that, he was executive vice president of merchandising at Gantos.
Buccina started his career in 1973 as an executive trainee at Kaufmann’s, a May Co. division, and spent eight years in buying and senior management positions at May.
“Since his arrival, Tony Buccina has proven to be a driving force in the all-important women’s ready-to-wear area,” said Stanton Bluestone, chairman and chief executive officer. “His aggressive style and strategic understanding of our business will certainly enable us to continue our successful results.”
Buccina said he does not plan to change the company’s merchandising strategies, but will be “more aggressive in pursuing them and will implement them more quickly.”
He reports to Bluestone.
