PORTER JOINS NIKE AS VP, GMM IN U.S.
NEW YORK — George Porter, a 23-year veteran of Levi Strauss & Co., has joined Nike as vice president and general manager of its U.S. region, a new post.
He will be based at Nike’s corporate headquarters in Beaverton, Ore., and reports to Thomas E. Clarke, president and chief operating officer.
Most recently, Porter was president of Levi’s USA. In April, Porter, 50, announced his plans to take early retirement. At that time, he said he planned to spend time pursuing other interests, including his partnership in a Napa Valley winery, Luna Winery.
Tom Fanoe was promoted from vice president of customer relations to replace Porter at Levi’s USA. To help with the transition, Porter stayed on with the company through Friday, according to a Levi’s spokesman.
Porter couldn’t be reached for comment on this latest development.
In a Nike statement issued Tuesday, Clarke said, “Our U.S. region accounts for 59 percent of our total revenues. I am confident that under George’s leadership, we will continue to be successful in this very important part of the world for Nike.”
