ALL THAT GLITTERS

The people’s choice of fashion shows — the annual Gold Coast Fashion Award Show — honored Carla Westcott for her dress collection last month.
In its 42nd season, the fund-raiser for Children’s Memorial Hospital drew a talent pool of up-and-coming designer entries including Susan Lazar, Elizabeth Fillmore, Vivienne Tam, Jussara Lee, Reva Mivasagar, Christian Francis Roth and Onyx Noir, along with Westcott.
In show tradition, audience members — all 1,600 of them — voted on a winner after viewing the designers’ fall collections on the runway. Past winners-on-the-way-up included Donna Karan, Bill Blass and Pamela Dennis.
Having lost to designer Angel Sanchez last year, Westcott was back for round two with a sleek collection of black and matte gold evening dresses, often studded in Swarovski beads.
“I’m a fighter and I don’t like to lose,” said a victorious Westcott. “After last year, I decided I needed to make stronger dresses, things that looked good on a date and to 1,500 people in a room.”
