YOU CAN’T FIGHT CITY HALL: After years of conflict between the city of Milan and the fashion set, the city’s new mayor, Gabriele Albertini, is trying to forge ties with the designer community. But you’d almost think he’s trying to steal their thunder. In the midst of a packed calendar, City Hall is getting in on the action by staging its own fashion extravaganza Thursday evening — in the middle of the Versace show. Dubbed Galleria di Stelle, or Gallery of Stars, the event will be held in Milan’s historic arcade near the Duomo and will feature clothing by Krizia, Missoni and Ferre, among others. (Armani, Gucci and Prada have declined to participate.)
The event will be broadcast live on Italian television and will include a video link with the Versace show. It’s all costing $872,000 — underwritten by the hosiery company Pompea — and among the 800 guests will be the cast of “The Bold and the Beautiful,” which arrives today to start filming several episodes in and around Milan.
