KASHIYAMA NET UP 1% IN HALF
NEW YORK — Tokyo-based apparel firm Onward Kashiyama reported earnings for the first half ended Aug. 31 inched up 1 percent on a 1.4 percent sales gain.
In the half, the company earned $35 million ($4.26 billion yen) at current exchange against 4.18 billion yen a year ago.
Results came in below the company’s forecast of net earnings of $37 million (4.5 billion yen). Sales were $730.8 million (88.86 billion yen), against 87.62 billion yen.
Looking ahead, Onward Kashiyama expects to earn $79.8 million (9.7 billion yen) for the year ending February 1998. A year ago, earnings totaled 9.42 billion yen.
